Stomach Ulcer Dilemmas
Stomach ulcers and Drug companiesIn the year 2003 drug companies made over 4.3 billion on a drug called omeprozole (I am quoting an internet website who's address I have long since forgotten) and the food and drug administration where still debating whether Helicobacter pylori, a nasty little bacteria found in the stomach, was indeed the cause of stomach ulcers. Was it because of the large sums of money the drug companies where making that those of us with stomach ulcers had to endure our own personal nightmare. I find it hard to believe that the evidence was too inconclusive.
Your stomach and drugsIt seems highly unlikely to me that the acid our stomachs produce in order to digest food could ever be harmful. Whether you are a creationist or an evolutionist makes little difference when it comes to this. Either God designed you in such a way that your stomach could handle its own juices or alternately, evolution would surely have sorted the problem out by now. Drug companies obviously don't really believe either of these two scenarios and decided to combat the problem of stomach ulcers by inhibiting the stomachs secretion of gastric juices. This would of course only bring temporary and sometimes fleeting relief but never fully eliminate the cause of stomach ulcers.
Thank God for the internetIf it wasn't for the internet we would have little choice but to believe everything the medical profession has to say and for the most part I must admit, They do a sterling job. Many of them are people that set out to make a difference and do it very well, but sometimes the wheels fall off and we must take matters into our own hands. I thank God for the internet because without it I would never have known about Helicobacter pylori. After 2 years of suffering from stomach ulcers and seeing various medical professionals I was none the wiser about the real cause.
